Feathers are used in many cultures to symbolize wisdom, lightness and movement. For young children, it’s good to use visual aids, like feathers, to help the practice of understanding and letting go of negative emotions or energy. Here we use the feather to guide our negative thoughts away and guide positive thoughts back in.
- Think about any worry or thought that makes you feel stressed or upset. It probably starts with “I”.
- Now take a low and slow breath in, as big as you can, blow your feather into the air and let the thought go with it.
- Notice what it feels like in your body when you let the feather and the thought go. Do you feel heavier or lighter, warmer or colder? Where do you feel the negative thought leaving your body? Do you feel more room for you? Do you shine a little brighter?
- Now get your feather again and let go of another thought you don’t need and notice what happens when you blow away that negative thought. Just think, you’re a Chi Kid and you’re in charge of your mind.
- Think of a thought that starts with “I” that makes you feel much better. Something about yourself that makes you feel proud, or happy or peaceful. Say that thought to yourself a few times while you wave your feather, guiding the positive thought in.
- Notice what your body feels like with that thought inside. You might feel your tummy settle down, your muscles relax more and your breathing become slower.
- Write your thought down or draw a picture of it to remember. Whenever you get rid of a negative thought, replace it with this one.
